PayPal to Stop Protecting Online Casino Gaming Transactions in Select Countries
By Brodey Sheppard - May 11, 2016
Bad news for poker players. PayPal has announced that it will stop protecting payments made by users for online casino gaming transactions. This resolution covers a number of countries, including Canada, US, and Brazil. But don’t worry because there are still a number of other casino deposit methods that you can choose from. We will talk about those later on.
PayPal Payment Protection for Casino Gaming
Before, the PayPal Payment Protection policy’s ‘ineligible items’ for reimbursement only included digital goods, services, real estate, businesses, vehicles, custom-made items, travel tickets and industrial machinery, among others. Casino, online bingo and other forms of online gaming transactions were not included in the list. However, in its updated list, PayPal will include ““gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize.”
The amendment on PayPal’s Payment Protection policy and User Agreement is anticipated to impact seller and buyer protection, as well as dispute resolution.
Other Sectors Affected by PayPal’s Payment Protection Update
Meanwhile, the move will also create an impact on certain countries’ PayPal users who use the payment processor to deposit money to crowdfunding projects via Kickstarter and other similar sites.
PayPal shared to BBC, “This is consistent with the risks and uncertainties involved in contributing to crowdfunding campaigns, which do not guarantee a return for the investment made in these types of campaigns.”
According to a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, 9% of the projects listed in Kickstarter “failed to deliver rewards”. Kickstarter has shared that people should understand that the site does not function like an online store, but rather a community where people can share innovative ideas and even materialise them.
Aside from withdrawing protection for crowdfunding transactions, PayPal also included government agency payments in its “ineligible list”.
Options for Casino Deposits
If you are in the UK, you won’t have to worry about this update because PayPal will continue to protect casino gaming transactions made in that area. If you live in an area affected by the Payment Protection policy update, do not worry because you can still continue to use that payment method or choose other options to make a deposit. First of all, you can still use your credit card or debit card to fund your account. There are also some Paysafecard casinos that you can play at. The great things about this deposit method include instant deposits and speedy cash out processing. You can also rest assured that your transaction is safe and secure.
Other options are available for deposits for you to start playing casino or bingo games. In bingo, one of the most common bingo deposit methods is direct bank transfer. Some of the newer methods for depositing funds to your online gaming account include mobile phone billing. Since most players use their mobile device or smartphones in playing online games, some sites have made this payment method available. In this payment option, your pre-paid or post-paid mobile phone account is linked to your online gaming account and amounts will be credited to your bill or deducted from your balance as you play.
