Beach Rugby

What is beach rugby? As the name suggests, this is similar to the traditional game of rugby, with the main difference being that the game is played on sand.

While rules differ from one league to the next, you won’t have a problem finding a game as it has become very popular throughout Europe (particularly in Italy).

A beach rugby field is typically 20 to 25 meters wide and 30 to 50 meters long. Each team has either four or seven players, along with anywhere from three to seven reserves.

Despite the differences between beach rugby and the traditional form of the game, a standard rugby ball is used. With a “one try, one point” scoring system in place, playing the game is simple. In the event of a tie, sudden death overtime takes place.

Most beach rugby games are 10 to 14 minutes long, broken down into two halves.

As beach rugby continues to grow in popularity in Europe, the chance of it catching on in other parts of the world is much greater. With this beach rugby information, you can decide if you want to get involved.
