Blackjack is the most popular and widely played game in any normal casino. While most online casinos offer this game, they tend to concentrate on other products like video slots and jackpots for their main stay. Despite this the classic casino game has kept its charm and popularity, and it is offered in a wide array of variations that cater to all tastes. With the new 3D-casinos beating the dealer online has become an even more attractive option, and this classical game is certainly making a comeback, especially among high rollers. When combined with an attractive deposit or registration bonus this classic casino is a serious choice to consider for any gamer.
What is Blackjack and How to Play?
Blackjack is a card game played with one or more 52 card decks. The player is always playing against the dealer, and not against other players. Part of the game, however, is following how other players play, and if that affects your play. The game is historically significant, as it is first featured in one the classics of Western literature: Cervantes’ Don Quixote. The game is available in all casinos, and we, of course, aim to offer you the best casinos and bonuses to enjoy the game.
The basic rules of this casino card game are quite simple. The player needs to reach a hand higher than that of the dealer’s, without exceeding a score of 21. The score is calculated from the face or special value of each card of as following:
- Ace can count as 1 or 11 points (player’s choice)
- King, Queen, and Jack all count as 10 points
- Cards 2 through 10 are all counted by their numeric value
- Despite lending the game its name, the Black Jack is not treated differently from other value cards
- Best score is 21, with the ace and a ten point card
The game starts with the player and dealer being dealt two cards each. Players’ cards are dealt face up, whereas the dealer has one card face up and one face down. The best starting hand is an ace and any ten point card. This is called blackjack, and should the dealer have this at the start it will automatically beat any player hand. If the player also has blackjack, he will get his wager back. This is called a “push.”
After the cards have been dealt, and if there is no blackjack, the player is free to take action. At this point you can choose to activate one of the side rules, which might increase your chances of winning or winning a bigger bet. Then the player can choose to either stand, which means which means keeping the hand as it is, or take more hits from the deck. If the player chooses the hit he will get a new card one at a time until he decides his hand is strong enough against the dealer, or his score exceeds 21 and he loses.
Once the player is happy with their choice, it’s the dealers turn to act. First he will turn over the card that is face down, and reveal his full hand. If the dealer's hand total is less than 17 he is forced to take a hit, until he either goes bust or he stands after the values is above 17. If the dealer goes bust all players in the game win. If the dealer scores between 17 and 20 points, the score is compared to that of the player with the highest score naturally determining the winner.
Betting and Side Rules
The game can be played with a varying bet level, and it is mostly up to the casino what they have on offer. Usually betting starts from a minimum of one dollar, while maximum hovers somewhere around 100 dollars. Most online casinos offer considerably larger sums, especially for bonus games. The game is, of course, free to try, which is always a good way to get used to new games and rules.
- Player wins as much as he bets
- Payout for Black is 1.5 times the bet, betting 10 dollars gives you 15
- Normally maximum bet is twenty times the minimum bet
The game is extremely straightforward for the most part, but the side rules increase both the challenge and chances of the game. The player can, for example, choose to split his cards, double down, get super sevens or more. The rules are in effect dependent on the casino, although all will allow doubling down and splitting cards. Most important thing to remember is that you must choose these options before you draw any cards from the deck. The dealer cannot choose any side options.
Doubling down means that the player will double his initial bet at the start of his turn. This comes with a cost as the player will automatically take one extra card and stand at the value. This is a useful risk if it seems that the player will only need one card, and it is not likely to go above the score limit. Perhaps the more interesting option is splitting cards. If the player happens to receive two cards of the same value he can choose to split his deck, making two decks. Some casinos also offer further splitting if the player is lucky enough. The new hands will play with separate bets, and thus increases player’s chances of winning. This is especially useful with low combination cards.
