Players just can’t get enough fun and excitement each time when they play Canada Lotto Max. For just CA$5, you can get three sets of numbers to play. Everyone can get a chance to win the jackpot, which starts at CA$10 million (roughly US$6.8 million).

This top prize can reach up to CA$60 million (around US$41 million) until someone wins. Also, CA$1 million Maxmillion prizes are up for grabs in a separate draw when the Lotto Max jackpot hits CA$50 million (about $34.3 million), which means there are more prizes to be won.

How to play

Playing Lotto Max is fun and easy. You get three sets of numbers for every CA$5 you play (US$3.44). Each set has a total of seven numbers, between 1 and 49. All three sets of numbers are qualified for the Lotto Max main draw and the Maxmillions draw when held.

You can choose to play the game in two ways. First, you can pick your own numbers. Mark seven numbers on a Lotto Max selection slip. Choose from 1 to 49. For every set of numbers played, the terminal will produce two additional sets of the number selected.

Alternatively, you can ask the lottery retailer for a Quick Pick, or you can indicate the Quick Pick box on a Lotto Max selection slip. Then, the lottery will randomly choose three sets of numbers for you.

You can play the lotto up to five times per ticket, but if you want to play for more than a single draw, just indicate the number of draws in the Advance Play box.

You can also choose to play up to 26 weeks in advance with Advance Play. Draws happen every Friday and tickets are sold until 10:30 p.m. EST on draw nights.

Seven numbers and one bonus number are picked in the main draw, and seven numbers are drawn for the Maxmillions draw when it is held. You must match all seven numbers to win a Maxmillions prize.

How to win

The odds of winning the grand prize in the lotto are 1 in roughly 28,633,528. Those odds significantly decline as you move on to the next prize level. Six numbers out of seven, including the bonus number, will give you a 1 in 4,090,504 chance. The odds of matching the Maxmillions numbers drawn are 1 in 28,633,528.

Around 48% of Lotto Max Draw sales are allocated to the prize fund. If more than one player wins in the 5/7, 6/7, 6/7 + Bonus and 7/7 prize categories, the prize will be divided equally among the winners in that category.

About Maxmillions

The stakes at Lotto Max gets even bigger with Maxmillions. Once the main Lotto Max grand prize reaches $50 million, an extra $1 million worth of Maxmillions prizes are also up for grabs. When Maxmillions prizes are offered, your Lotto Max ticket will give you a chance to win both the main jackpot, as well as any of the $1 million Maxmillions draws on the same day.

When held, seven numbers are drawn for every Maxmillions draw. So players must match the numbers to win. If the grand prize is won, any Maxmillions prize that is not won will be included to the next Lotto Max jackpot. It does not carry forward as Maxmillion prizes. Also, if the main jackpot is not won, any Maxmillions that are not also won will be moved to the next draw as Maxmillions prizes. If there is more than one winner of the Maxmillion prize, the $1 million prize will be shared equally among the winners in that particular draw.

Additional Info

The chances of winning a prize in the Lotto Max and its potential Maxmillions grow significantly with the size of the prize pool.

Lucky winners of the Lotto Max main draw prizes and Maxmillions prizes should claim their winnings within 12 months of the draw date.

Unclaimed prizes from national games, such as Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, go back to players through bonus games or future promotions.

The winning Lotto Max tickets can be redeemed only at the location where they were bought.

The jackpot for this lotto is capped at $50 million. Every $1 million added to this is separately drawn as a $1 million Maxmillions prize. The cap for the main prize is $60 million.

So for example, the jackpot cap is set at $50 million, but the amount available for this prize category reaches roughly $55.5 million. Then, the jackpot is $50 million with five Maxmillions draws, each worth $1 million, up for grabs. If an extra amount of money is still available from the total prize category, then it will be included to the 6/7 + Bonus prize category of the main jackpot.
