You can experience the thrill of playing UK’s favourite lottery game every week. Get a chance to win the jackpot along with huge cash prizes. To make the game more enjoyable, the UK Lotto Plus 5 was added in 2011 to fill the days without lotto draws between Wednesday and Saturday. So now, players can participate lotto drawings every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

You can enter the Lotto Plus 5 just by paying an additional £1 when you buy a lotto ticket. You can still enter the same ticket numbers into five different drawings during the days mentioned earlier.

For each draw, you can get a chance to win fixed prizes for matching three, four, five and six numbers with the top prize amounting to £250,000. Games draws can be played up to eight weeks in advance on a single ticket.

Players can win prizes on Lotto Plus 5 in the following ways: matching the six main numbers to get the £250,000 jackpot; matching five numbers plus the bonus to get £25,000; matching five numbers only to get £250; matching four numbers to get £25, and matching three numbers to get £2.50.

With the changes made to the main lotto game, the Plus 5 was no longer available. Its last draw was held on October 2013, and tickets for the game went on sale for the last time in September 2013.

History of the National Lottery

The UK Lotto, previously known as The National Lottery, was launched on November 19, 1994. Its goal was to help raise funds for good causes, and the UK Lotto has managed to do so with more than £33 billion given to charitable institutions since it started.

The record high for the most winners in a single drawing was achieved on January 14, 1995, when around 133 players divided the top prize of over £16 million, each taking home more than £100,000. The National Lottery was renamed as UK Lotto in 2002.

How to play UK Lotto

Playing the UK Lotto is super easy and loads of fun. Just choose six numbers between 1 and 59. You can also use Lucky Dip to randomly generate the numbers for you if you want. Next, choose how many lines you want to play. You can play up to seven lines on every play slip and purchase up to ten play slips at a given time. Then, select the draws and number of weeks you want to play.

You can play up to eight weeks in advance or continuously by using the Direct Debit option. Also, you can start a syndicate to have other people share in the excitement and increase your chances of winning a prize.

To win the top prize, you need to match all six main numbers on the same line, including the Bonus Ball. To get the second-tier jackpot, you have to match five main numbers, plus the Bonus Ball.

The UK Lotto jackpot can reach up to £50 million and draws take place every Wednesday at 10:35 p.m. (GMT), and Saturday at 8:45 p.m. (GMT).

The overall odds of winning a prize are 9.3 to 1. Also, the overall odds of matching six numbers for the top prize are 45,057,473 to 1. You can check the results during the live television broadcast or online after the numbers have been drawn.

Extra games

To double the excitement, players can enjoy the Millionaire Raffle and the free Lucky Dip. The Millionaire Raffle occurs on the same day as the main draw. So players can now have two chances to be a millionaire in each draw.

For every Millionaire Raffle draw, around 21 raffle numbers will be chosen, and each can win a guaranteed raffle prize. The first raffle number can win the first prize of £1,000,000, and the other 20 raffle numbers selected can each win the second prize of £20,000.

Millionaire Raffle entries begin with four letters that spell out a colour and followed by eight numbers.

If you match two numbers in the draw, you get to win a Free Lucky Dip ticket, which gives you another chance to win and become a millionaire in a future draw. The free Luck Dip can be used for either the Wednesday or Saturday draw. The choice is yours.

Lotto winners

The biggest UK Lotto jackpot on record, amounting to a massive £35,133,888, was won on April 6, 2016 by a winner who chose to remain anonymous. Another huge jackpot worth £66 million was won and shared by two players on January 9, 2016. Residing in Hawick in the Scottish borders, David and Carol Martin claimed their £33 million share just a few days after the draw. Another anonymous winner from Worcester claimed the other half of the grand prize.
